Selective Inking and Watercoloring with MISTI and Brutus Monroe

Today I'm sharing a card made with my MISTI and a new-to-me stamp from Brutus Monroe.  I loved the detail in this arched doorway, with it's crumbling stuccoed brick wall.  The vibe is so Mediterranean.   I knew it was going to be a fun one to paint.

Rustic Door

I began by selectively stamping the Rustic Door image onto Fabriano Artistico cold press watercolor paper with Distress Inks.  I used my Original MISTI, and slowly built up color by stamping small areas at a time.  I used Antique Linen, and Mowed Lawn, then leaving my stamp in place on the lid of my MISTI, used a wet paintbrush to rewet the inks and soften and blur the images,  pulling the ink out from the image to create the stuccoed wall.  I paint in more color, adding more depth with Tea Dye, and shadows with Weathered Wood and Pumice Stone.

I dried my panel between colors as I painted with my heat gun, then stamped the details back into my painting using the Brutus Monroe inks: Suede, Maple, Macchiato, Sidewalk, Cabbage, Jurassic.  I stamped in the same way as with the Distress Inks, adding color just a bit at a time, building up the color.

I used a Spellbinders deckled rectangle die to trim out my panel, the stamped my greeting.  The greeting is from Papertrey Ink's Year of Flowers: Carnations.  Once I had added the greeting,  I decided I needed to deepen the contrast around the doorframe, so I added more color with Distress Inks and my paintbrush.

The card was assembled using Liquid Glue and a Buff colored top-fold card base.
