Growing in Unity Day Four

Welcome back!

Today is Day Four of my stint as a Unity Stamp Company 2018 Growing In Unity girl.  Thanks for being with me this week as I share some of my favorite projects and techniques using Unity's fabulous stamps.

Today I have a simple coloring technique card and video to share with you.  I love to color, and love to spend time adding depth and dimension through color.  But sometimes, when I need a quick card, I don't have a lot of time to spend to create something detailed.  There are times when I need a birthday card or gift tag in a hurry!  I'd like to show you a quick technique of adding highlights to colored images using a white gel pen

.

I chose one of the images from last April's Unity Kit of the Month.  I'll be using this bicycle image and "enjoy the ride" sentiment from the Be My Bird (4/17) kit.

I love the Kit of the Month kits.  Of all the subscriptions I've tried, Unity is the only that I have kept continuously.  I've been a subscriber for soon to be two years and have yet to be disappointed.  In fact, I think they keep getting better and better.  Each month I catch myself saying, "Oh!  This is my favorite one yet!"

For today's card, I've stamped both the bicycle image and the sentiment with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and did some very quick coloring using very dark colored Copic markers.  The image looked quite flat and very non-descript and dark.  But by adding simple highlights with a Signo Uni-Ball white gel pen, I could quickly add dimension, and give bit of illusion of shine of the metal bike frame.

Watch the quick 6 minute video here:

I hope you enjoyed these simple tips and video.

Thank you for all the sweet comments the first few days!  It has been a fun sharing with you, and I'm grateful for the opportunity and for the support from Unity Stamp Company!

Today is yet another day to enter to win one of two fabulous prize packs of 25 random Unity Stamps.  Leave a comment below!  The two randomly drawn winners will be announced on this blog, and on the Unity Stamp Company Show & Tell and Growing in Unity Facebook pages.

Hope to see you here again tomorrow for Day Five!
Have a great day!

  17. What an awesome KOM this is you used! Will have to put it on the wish list to try to get it at a sale price. Your card is lovely. Love the sentiment, too. Life is too short. Just enjoy the ride.

  18. Thank you for the Copic tips. I am new to these markers so still learning about blending, highlighting etc. I’ve had mine drip on my project so knowing that I should take off both caps is helpful. You explain everything so clearly without saying too much. This card is adorable! I’m really enjoying your GIU week!!

  28. OK - this may sound silly, but adding the shade under each tire completely changed the way the bicycle looked even before you added the Sig-no!! So fun & so doable <3 Thanks for taking the time to "show" us so much ;) Have a great day!!
