Ink Blot Shop has a brand new release today and I am using two of the new stamps sets for my projects: Food For Thought and Heart Dot Star Backgrounds.
I used both on my first card.
I began by placing my toaster image from Food for Thought on the lid of my MISTI, and stamping onto a panel of Hammermill 80# Digital Color Cover paper using Whisper Amalgam ink. I cleaned my stamp in place on the lid of my MISTI and left it in place to use again in the next step.
I created a mask for the toaster by covering the image on my panel with a piece of 3M 2" Post it Labeling Tape, then stamping again onto the tape. I removed the stamped tape, cut out the mask, and placed it over my image and stamped again, with black ink so that only the toaster cord would be in black.
I left the mask in place, and using the grid lines on my MISTI Mouse Pad to line up my panel and the Hearts stamps from Star Dot Heart Backgrounds, I stamped over my masked image using Red Velvet ink. The strip of Post-it tape does double duty here. It protects the lower portion of my panel from fingerprints, as well as holds my panel securely in place should I need to stamp a second time.
I moved my panel down, and using the same line on the grid of the Mouse Pad and the remnant hearts remaining on the Mouse Pad from the first stamping, moved the panel into the correct position to stamp the hearts onto upper portion of the panel. It's ok that your panel peeks out from the edges of your MISTI. It would crease, or wrinkle the panel. Once again, the Post-it tape held the panel securely, in case I needed to re-stamp.
Now, I want to create a red countertop on which my toaster can be resting. I moved my strip of Post-it tape to cover the lowest row of stamped hearts, and added another parallel to it, about 1/4" down. Using an ink blending brush, I added Red Velvet ink to the area between the two tape strips.
Then I removed the lower tape, and lightly inked the lower portion of my panel, leaving the left side slightly lighter than the right.
Now that my background is finished, I removed the mask so I could begin coloring the image.
I wanted the look of a stainless steel or chrome toaster, so I chose to work with the cool gray Copic, C0, C1, C2 and C3
I chose the contrast of the W7 Copic for the toaster slot, and colored the base colors of the bread slice.
But I didn't want bread. I wanted toast!! So I decided to add all the toasty details in with Faber Castell Polychromos Pencils. I now have toast! I also added some more shading and shape definition to the toaster with warm gray pencils, and a bit more crisp definition to the toaster handle using the cool grays.
I also decided to color in a few of the hearts in my wallpaper background with a red pencil as well. I then used my Rototrim paper trimmer to cut my panel down to a 3 1/8" square before I added my greeting. I stamped the "I propose a toast" first in black ink, then cleaned my stamp while in place on my MISTI lid, then stamped again with embossing ink over the top and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
I added a narrow pale gray mat to my image, and popped it up from my white top-fold card base with dimensional foam tape.
I used the Food for Thought stamp set with similar coloring techniques on my second card as well.
I stamped the oranges image using my Original MISTI, with Barely There Amalgam ink and colored with Copic markers. This time, before adding pencil details however, I used a small piece of an old cotton terry loop towel dampened with a few drops of Copic 0, (colorless blender refill), to dab gently over my orange to lift away bits of color to create that subtle orange peel texture. Once it was dry, I added some extra details to the orange stem and the wedge with pencils. The greeting was added with black ink, the panel trimmed to 3.75" x 5.5" and added with dimensional foam tape to an A2 top-fold card base along with an accent strip of coordinating paper.
That's it from me today, but there's much more inspiration to be found in today's hop! Click HERE to return to the Ink Blot Shop blog to find the next hop participant!
